At the Hoosier Heritage Trail Association, we celebrate Indiana’s woodlands and history. Our trail is designed to be scenic and educational: we don’t choose the shortest route or easiest route, we choose the most interesting route. Ultimately, we plan to build a 400+ mile trail connecting the Falls of the Ohio with the Indiana Dunes. Along the way, we will help develop Indiana’s economy by bringing backpackers to small towns.

We plan to build a 400+ mile trail connecting the Falls of the Ohio with the Indiana Dunes.

We bring backpackers and their spending to small towns across Indiana.

The trail connects hikers and backpackers with Indiana’s rich history.

Volunteers are gold to us. We welcome our volunteers, their energy, and their new ideas.

Director of Trail Development

My name is Pablo Abarca, I’m an educator and an avid hiker. I hope to help grow access and connection to Indiana’s wild places. I fell in love with hiking in the Catskills alongside my grandmother. Today, I am lucky enough to hike alongside my daughter on the trails of Indiana and Kentucky. Now rooted in southern Indiana, I’m driven to help build a lasting legacy so future generations can explore, belong to, and care for this landscape.
